Timberland Lodge, Oregon – The Shining
The plot of the Stephen King movie The Shining takes place in a haunted hotel out in the mountains in the middle of nowhere. Jack Nicholson stars as Jack Torrance, a man hired to be caretaker of the empty Overlook Hotel while it is closed for the winter. Jack intends to use the time to focus on his writing but is instead driven increasingly insane by the numerous ghosts which inhabit the hotel. He ultimately tries to kill his wife and son, who eventually manage to escape on a snow plow, while Jack freezes to death in the hedge maze. The actual hotel used for shooting was the Timberland Lodge in Oregon.

Taj Lake Palace Hotel, Udaipur – Octopussy
The thirteenth Bond movie Octopussy was the sixth in which the secret agent was played by Roger Moore. In the film, Bond must infiltrate the floating palace of the leader of the Octopus cult, a wealthy woman known only as Octopussy, in an attempt to solve the mystery of who has been stealing priceless Soviet treasures and replacing them with fakes. The building used as the fantastic palace is, in actuality, a hotel, the Taj Lake Palace, with 67 rooms and 17 exclusive suites that can only be reached by boat.

The Regent Beverly Wilshire, LA – Pretty Woman
The Julia Roberts and Richard Gere modern classic Pretty Woman had Gere’s billionaire character Edward Lewis living in the penthouse of the Regent Beverly Wilshire. Lewis accidentally picks up a prostitute while trying to ask for directions to the hotel and embarks on a relationship of sorts with Vivian (Roberts), hiring her to be his ‘beck and call girl’ for the duration of his stay. Despite their differences the two eventually fall in love, and both become influenced by the other’s good points – Edward becomes less business-focused and Vivian learns how to fit into high society.

The Westin Grand, Berlin – The Bourne Supremacy
The second Bourne film takes place across several countries including India, Germany, Italy and Moscow. In Berlin Jason Bourne stakes out the hotel room of Ward Abbott, which is filmed within the Westin Grand. The hotel is also close to numerous other locations used in the film, as Berlin was used as a double for other cities including Amsterdam, Munich and Naples.

The Bellagio, Las Vegas – Ocean’s Eleven (remake)
The 2001 remake of the Rat Pack’s 1960 film Ocean’s Eleven featured an all-star cast including Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Matt Damon. The comedy crime caper revolves around main character Danny Ocean’s plan to simultaneously rob three Vegas casinos, the Bellagio, the Mirage and the MGM Grand. The majority of the action takes place in and around the Bellagio, the richest of the three casinos. To recline on a luxurious hotel mattress for the night here will set you back a minimum of $159 per person, with suites costing upwards of $1000 a night.
